A New Clank! Adventure Awaits in The Forgotten Vault Expansion!
August 24, 2026
Ten years ago, Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure introduced treasure-hungry adventurers to a dragon’s lair filled with riches for the very first time, and in the years that followed, a variety of additional dungeons opened their doors for plundering.
Sunken Treasures invited sneaky thieves to dive into underwater caverns and decrepit shipwrecks, while The Mummy’s Curse had them contending against a vengeful Mummy in ancient ruins. In Gold & Silk and Temple of the Ape Lords, bold burglars took expeditions into dwarven mines, a monstrous spider’s lair, and a perilous jungle temple. And now, in The Forgotten Vault, a whole new adventure awaits.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming new expansion, available in the upcoming Cube of Holding and The Forgotten Vault Kickstarter, and don’t forget to sign up for updates before the campaign launches to get up to 17 exclusive promo cards with your pledge!

Two New Maps

Like the expansions that preceded it, The Forgotten Vault includes a double-sided board, each with its own map to explore. On one side, a crumbling library lies in ruins housing a gargantuan haunted clock, where each swing of the pendulum can whisk you away to different areas of the library. Meanwhile on the other side, you’ll find haunted barrows with labyrinthine passages and dark underground vaults — will you venture in well-enough equipped to take advantage of its many shortcuts?
Speaking of which…

Traversing the Dungeons with Special Moves
On various cards in The Forgotten Vault expansion, you’ll find a new symbol:

This is a special move, which allows you to harness the unique qualities of each map to move to a different room. This is not a boot! That means it can’t be used as a normal move across regular tunnels, nor is it beholden to the restrictions of Crystal Caves. Rather, the symbol’s ability is context-based on which map you’re playing on.
In the library, the special move is a “swing” which allows you to grab onto the clock’s giant swinging pendulum and jump into a new room in its path. On this board you’ll see four sections, and when you move via pendulum swing, you can move to any room in the same section, even if they’re not connected by tunnels. Wheee!

One giant pendulum, four sections. With a special move you can move from one room to any other in the same section — even if you’re starting in a Crystal Cave!
In the barrows, in place of a towering clock, you’ll find ropes connecting various rooms on the map. On this board, the special move is in a “climb,” allowing you to move along them rather than through a normal tunnel. Some rope passages offer impressive shortcuts, while others may be a safer alternative to neighboring monster-filled tunnels.

With a whole new deck of cards, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for special moves on the Dungeon Row. But, if you’d rather take things into your own hands, you can also purchase a trusty Grappling Hook from the Market, which grants you a one-time special move. Use it wisely!

Harness the Power of Secret Tomes with Study Tokens

It’s always nice to pick up a Secret Tome for the sweet victory points, but isn’t it a nuisance when one of those dusty old things shows up in your hand? Well, brace yourself for some knowledge, because The Forgotten Vault — ancient library that it is — will allow you to unlock the hidden power of Secret Tomes via study tokens!

On each map, there are four rooms where you can acquire study tokens, each one granting a different ability. During your turn, if you play a Secret Tome, it activates all of your study tokens, giving you the resources they show (up to once per turn). You can only have one study token of each type, but with all three together, that could turn a Secret Tome — normally dead weight in your hand — into a vehicle for two Swords, a Boot, and a Skill. Behold, the power of reading!

Each study token room contains a token of a different type (one per player), along with a wild room which allows you to pick one of your choice.
Want to glam up your collection of Secret Tomes? By following the Kickstarter before it launches, you can receive up to 17 exclusive promo cards with your pledge, including a set of new Secret Tomes themed after each expansion in the original Clank! line of games!

Beware the Gargoyles!

Both maps in The Forgotten Vault are littered with rooms containing Gargoyle tokens. When you enter one of these rooms, the stone statue will spring to life, and you must choose to either fight it (spending 3 Swords), or take 1 damage. The good news? Each defeated Gargoyle grants a special bonus reward. It pays to be brave!

Those aren’t the only gargoyles in the dungeon… say hello to your new boss monster, the one gargoyle to rule them all!
Echo! …Echo!

Another new ability you’ll find on various cards in The Forgotten Vault is Echo, which allows for cards to remain in play for a second turn. When you play an Echo card, you gain its abilities on the turn you play it, and then you turn it on its side. At the end of your turn, any Echo card turned on its side stays in your play area instead of going to discard, and on the following turn, it’s flipped back up, allowing you to enjoy its benefits again. For once, an echo in the dungeon can be a good thing!
