Eternal Balance Update 3/22/2023
March 22, 2023In addition to pre-orders for The Devouring beginning today, we’re also introducing three targeted balance changes in the wake of the impact Behemoths of Thera has had upon the metagame:
- Ziat, Steelwarren Reeve to 4/2 (was 4/4)
Ziat has proven undesirably resilient. Rather than picking apart the enemy gameplan, she’s often able to steal their only answer to a 4/4 Deadly attacker and close out the game before they can get any justice. At 2-health she will still be a powerful disruptive threat, but have a much wider range of ways for your opponent to catch up.
- Feed the Hecaton to 3-cost (was 2-cost)
Feed the Hecaton has proved to be too powerful a combination of tempo and card advantage, often putting the enemy player behind in both the immediate and long-term. At 3-cost it will still be a powerful way to kill multiple units, but won’t be quite so easy to prevent your opponent from ever getting their footing. Ziat’s reduced health also means she won’t be helping to Feed the Hecaton any longer.
- Steelwarren Responder to 3/1 (was 1/1)
This is primarily a draft change. We often want our synergistic uncommons to help shape and direct draft experiences, and the Responder came in too low to do its job effectively. At 3/1, you’re still hoping to find a weapon, but you’re not quite so far behind when you whiff.
As always, we’ll be continuing to monitor new trends and developments in the Eternal metagame – and we’re looking forward to seeing what you cook up with the new cards coming in The Devouring!
