February 1, 2023Some changes are coming to PVP matchmaking in order to improve both queue times and match fairness.
First, we’re reducing the amount that players’ current League impacts matchmaking, and focusing more on our dynamic Matchmaking Rating (MMR) to find fair opponents. We discovered that our matchmaking system was previously putting too much focus on finding opponents within the same League (Bronze I, Gold II, etc). Players often had to wait unnecessarily in the queue for an opponent in their League, even when a fair MMR match was already available.
Additionally, players’ League rank will no longer be displayed during a game, except when both players are in the Master league. Now that League won’t be a major factor in matchmaking, displaying it prominently to both players would be more misleading than helpful.
These changes will apply to all of our Ranked queues (Throne, Expedition, and Draft).
Improvements and Bug Fixes:
- Advantage cards that grant 2 or more power now have differently colored art, to make it easier for players to identify the cards in their hand.
- Added new Gauntlet and Forge opponents that use cards from Behemoths of Thera
- Fixed an issue where the Deliveries could be played (to no effect) when Embargo Officer was preventing Market access
- Fixed an issue where Iadria, Twisted Brewer applied her ability even if the unit changed zones in response
- Fixed an issue where Iadria’s strength reduction didn’t trigger Xumuc Shaman
- Fixed an issue where Living Reflection could cause additional Hunts each time it was replayed
- Fixed an issue where spells that force the enemy to sacrifice a unit could not kill Bloodsucking Skeeter
- Fixed an issue where Champion of Chaos and similar units could regain their abilities’ buffs after being transformed into another unit
- Fixed an issue where some queue tips were too long to fully display on 4:3 resolutions
- Fixed an issue with the first game of the Syl’s Ambition chapter would fail to play the selected relic
- Fixed an issue where Sahin, Stateless’ summon didn’t offer a response window if the opponent did not have a relic
- Fixed an issue where Bombard and similar spells stopped displaying stack VFX if one of the targets left play in response
