Everything You Need to Know About the Clank! Master Thief Edition Line
September 11, 2026
We’re heading into the second week of the Clank! Cube of Holding and The Forgotten Vault Kickstarter and we can’t thank you all enough for your support! If you missed our deep dive into the Cube of Holding, you can find it here. This time, we’re digging into the updates that you’ll find in the Master Thief Editions of the original games.
Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure and its expansions — Sunken Treasures, The Mummy’s Curse, Gold & Silk, Temple of the Ape Lords, and Adventuring Party — are all being republished as new definitive versions that contain various updates. Previously, we’ve covered the basics of what you’re getting in these Master Thief Editions, but for those who want all of the details, read on!

ALL Master Thief Editions – New Boards and Boxes

The games come packed with new boards, each with two notable changes: the Health Track and Rage Track are now separate components, and colorful monster tunnels support the Wandering Monsters mini-expansion. (Note that the Health Track, Rage Track, and Wandering Monsters components are only included with the base game Master Thief Edition) This allowed us to enlarge the rooms on the board, and generally brighten the board art and add additional flavor. Each box also has a minor graphical update to make them a bit brighter on the shelf.

Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure (Base Game)
As the foundation for everything else, the Clank! base game has a few more changes than its expansions.
Rules Adjustments – Endgame and Ghosts

The countdown track is no more, replaced by new endgame rules: when a player is KO’d or escapes, they ttrigger a four cube Dragon Attack every time their turn comes around! And Ghosts — frightening white cubes that will be familiar to Catacombs players — now sit on the Rage Track. Each one you unlock is added into the bag, and deals 1 damage to all players every time it comes out. Youch! While the countdown track may be gone, things do still heat up fast with the increased frequency of Dragon Attacks and Ghosts!
Wandering Monsters Mini-Expansion – Cards and Tokens

The Wandering Monsters mini-expansion includes 14 cards for your Dungeon Deck, and 40 Wandering Monsters tokens. These cards and tokens interact with the new monster tunnels on each Master Thief Edition board, but they are packed ONLY into the base game.
Standalone Health Track, Rage Track, and Market

The Health Track and Rage Track have been moved to standalone boards, along with a separate Market board. The Health Track gets the biggest upgrade, with dual-layered cardboard featuring inset slots for the cubes. Also, both the Health Track and Rage Track support 6 players out of the box.
Balance Adjustments

Each Master Thief Edition (save for Expeditions) has a number of balance adjustments. In base Clank! you’ll find two new pathways on the game board, some new tokens, and a batch of card changes. Here’s a full rundown:
Card Adjustments
- Overlord (x2): +1 Clank added to card effect
- Invoker of the Ancients: Cost changed from 4 to 3
- Mister Whiskers: Grants -1 Clank! instead of -2, now grants 1 Skill
- Monkeybot 3000: VP changed from 1 to 3
- The Mountain King: VP changed from 3 to 2
- Brilliance: Cost changed from 6 to 7
- Dead Run (x2): Cost changed from 3 to 2
- Swagger (x2): Skill changed from 0+ to 1+
- Boots of Swiftness: Removed Acquire effect
- Flying Carpet: Text changed to say that you “may” avoid tunnel monsters, VP changed from 2 to 1
- Scepter of the Ape Lord: Now triggers Dragon Attack
- All Gems +1 VP from original value
- Diamond, Ruby (x2), Emerald (x2), Sapphire (x3)
- Belcher (x2): Flavor Text tweak (for good measure)
Token Adjustments
- NEW Major Secret – Potion of Greater Wisdom (x2): Flash of Brilliance has been removed, and has been replaced by Potion of Greater Wisdom, which allows you to draw two cards instead of three.
- NEW Minor Secret – Ghost Lantern (x2): The Ghost Lantern allows you to avoid damage as a one-time use when one or more Ghost cubes are pulled from the bag.
- Adjusted Quantities: The Potion of Strength and Dragon Egg Minor Secrets now both have one additional token in the pool.

Sunken Treasures – Enter the Dragon

The biggest change in Sunken Treasures is that it now gets its own wooden boss marker! That dastardly sea dragon was the only boss in any Clank! game to not have its own meeple (an idea which originated with the next expansion, The Mummy’s Curse), and now she finally gets to join the party! Aside from that, two cards have gotten adjustments:
- Elven Ranger: Cost changed from 5 to 6
- Short Cut: Now triggers Dragon Attack
The Mummy’s Curse – More Mummy Movement!

The one notable change in The Mummy’s Curse is that you’ll find the Mummy moving around more! The following five cards now trigger a roll of the Pyramid Die as an Arrival effect:
- Doomsayer
- Royal Bodyguard (x2)
- Purify
- Staff of the Ancients
Clank! Expeditions – Two Become One!

Gold & Silk and Temple of the Ape Lords have two things in common: they’re both under the Clank! Expeditions label, and they both came packaged in molded plastic clamshells rather than a box. They are now packaged as a single Clank! Expeditions product, with one box containing boards, rulebooks, and components for both expansions. Now they’ll actually sit on a shelf!

Adventuring Party – Character Development

None of the cards in the Dungeon Deck have been changed in the new version of Adventuring Party, but the characters have gotten some attention!
D’allan

Three of D’allan’s cards have been tweaked, with broader React effects applied to two, and the React effect removed entirely from the other:
- Competition: React effect now applies to any find (instead of one you don’t have)
- Exhibit: React effect now applies to any find (instead of one you don’t have)
- Collection: Removed React effect
Lenara

Lenara’s character board now has a fancy new Research Track, which harmonizes with a reworked version of her Study card, and she can now generate more mana from her deck.
- Character Board Adjustments:
-
-
- New Research Track
- Transfigure is now ordered Draw -> Discard
-
- Study: Now generates Mana equal to position of research token on track
- Mystic Slide: Now generates 1 Mana
MonkeyBot Prime

MonkeyBot is built a little different now, with some balance adjustments to his cogwheels and a rework that allows him to trash cards.
- Character Board Adjustments:
- Middle cogwheel is now empty instead of featuring 1 Sword
- Order of cogwheels is now Sword -> Skill -> Boot -> Empty -> Sword -> Skill -> Boot
- Primacy: Now allows you to trash a card if you have a Monkey Idol (instead of moving through Crystal Caves)
Agnet

Agnet’s cards remain unchanged, but she now is able to recruit Companions a bit easier with a change to her Character Board: each turn, the first companion she acquires from the dungeon row costs one skill less!
What About The Forgotten Vault?

As a new expansion, The Forgotten Vault has been designed to be played with the new version of Clank!, and is labeled as a Master Thief Edition. In it, you’ll find the same touches discussed above: a board that supports Wandering Monsters, and packaging that matches the rest of the line.
