Coming Soon: Master Thief Editions for the Original Clank! and All its Expansions!

Clank! is having a big year and for its 10th birthday, and we’re celebrating in a big way with the upcoming Cube of Holding and The Forgotten Vault Kickstarter, with a veritable hoard of Clank! goodies, including the Cube of Holding deluxe big box, The Forgotten Vault expansion, and Master Thief Editions of each game in the original board-based Clank! line!

Earlier this year, we announced the Master Thief Edition of Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure — a remastered version of the dungeon-delving classic with new packaging, gameplay updates, and more. And now, we can let you know that  all of the original expansions are following suit!

Sunken Treasures, The Mummy’s Curse, Gold & Silk, Temple of the Ape Lords, and the 5-6 player Adventuring Party expansion will all have refreshed Master Thief Editions available! Whether you’re a new player looking for a good opportunity to kickstart your thieving career or a veteran player who wants to refresh your collection, here’s a look at what’s in store:

New Changes in the Master Thief Editions

Separate Boards for the Rage Track, Health Track, and Market

In the Clank! – Master Thief Edition, the Rage Track, Market, and Health Track have been moved to their own boards. The Dual-Layered Health Track is the biggest upgrade here, with 5-6 player support and inset spaces for your health cubes. No more emergency cleanups if somebody accidentally bumps the table!

New Endgame Conditions and Ghosts

The countdown timer from the original Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure is no more. Now, in the Master Thief Editions, the endgame plays out a little differently: When a player escapes the dungeon or is KO’d, they trigger a four-cube dragon attack every time it hits their turn. 

Additionally, Ghosts have been added into the mix! These nasty white cubes — which will be familiar to anyone who has played Clank! Catacombs — sit on the spaces of the new Rage Track and are added to the bag when the dragon reaches their tier. Whenever a Ghost cube is drawn, all players take one damage. Ouch!

The Wandering Monsters Mini-Expansion

In the Master Thief Edition of the base game, you’ll find the Wandering Monsters Mini-Expansion, which includes 14 new cards for the Dungeon Deck, and 40 Wandering Monster tokens. These components interact with the colored tunnel monster icons that are now found on all Master Thief Edition maps — slay a monster that matches the color of a Wandering Monster token, and claim its reward! This adds some new variance to your heists — with different tunnels now having different incentives from game to game, you may find yourself taking paths less-traveled!

Card Changes

Various cards in each set have received balance changes. For example, in the base game, all Gems now grant an additional Victory Point, while the powerful Brilliance now costs an additional Skill to acquire.

These types of changes have been applied to a variety of cards in both the base game and all its expansions. We’ll have more details about these adjustments as we get deeper into the Kickstarter campaign!

Updated Boards and Boxes

All of the Master Thief Editions come in new packaging marked with the Master Thief Edition seal, and each game also gets a new updated board! While the map layouts remain the same, each board has been updated with new visual touches, along with bigger board spaces now that the Rage Track and Health Track are separate. As an added bonus, the increased real estate on the board makes the board spaces a perfect fit for the 33 miniatures that will be included in the Cube of Holding!

What If I Already Own the Original Games?

If you’ve already purchased the entire board-based line of Clank! games and you’d rather not purchase everything all over again, not to worry, we’ve got you covered: we’ll be offering a Mastery Pack as part of the campaign that will allow you to upgrade your existing games to Master Thief Edition. We’ll have more details about what that looks like as we move closer to the campaign!
