It’s always good for adventurers to be prepared, so join us as we take a look at some of the new features that players can expect to see in this expansion!
Swimming Through the Depths
Come on in, the water’s fine!
The first thing you’ll notice about the maps in Sunken Treasures is that the treasures are, well, sunken. It’s time for some literal dungeon-diving as you swim through flooded rooms in order to navigate the depths!
Here are some things you should know about swimming:
- Coming Up for Air: If you begin your turn inside of a flooded passage, you will need to come up for air at some point during your turn by visiting a non-submerged space. If you don’t you’ll take one point of damage!
- Swimming Takes Time: Swimming is no walk in the park, and it’ll take you longer to get around. That’s why underwater passages almost all cost 2 Boots to traverse! But not to worry, adventurers — keep reading to learn about the hot new item on the Market that will help you to navigate flooded passageways with ease!
New Market Item: SCUBA
Sunken Treasures includes all the Market items you know and love, but there’s a new addition in town: SCUBA! You heard it here first, folks. SCUBA (Sorcery-Created Underwater Breathing Apparel) not only gives you an incredibly stylish new get-up, but it also allows you to stay underwater without taking damage, and navigate flooded tunnels with one Boot instead of two!
SCUBA gear allows this player to traverse the neighboring passages for one boot instead of two. But when it makes you look this cool, does it even matter what it does?
Worth 5 points at the usual price of 7 gold, SCUBA is a must-have for folks who generally enjoy not becoming seafood in dark underwater depths. But the SCUBA budget is limited, so remember there are only two SCUBA sets per game!
New Map Features – Treasure Rooms and Clank! Tunnels
I don’t care how slick your “pencil dive” is, jumping into water is still going to make some noise.
You won’t be able to simply quietly slink into every flooded passage. Sometimes, you’ll have to jump in, and you can bet that a certain angry dragon is going to hear your little splishy-splashing when you do. This is represented by Clank! Tunnels, marked by that scary-looking icon in the screenshot above. When you pass through tunnels marked by said icons, you’ll accumulate one Clank! for each one!
It’s not all bad news though; a whole lot of gold has been lost to the watery abyss, and you’ll be able to claim some for yourself when you enter Treasure Rooms! Each time you pass through one of these, you’ll claim the amount of gold listed. It won’t run out, so if you’re short on cash, feel free to revisit at your leisure!
New Map – Shipwreck
Once upon a time, a bold crew of the fiercest pirates scored big with the most lucrative prize of their careers. Their ship loaded to the brim with glittering artifacts, the journey home was one of merriment and revelry, until they sailed just a little too close to a very grumpy dragon’s underwater lair…
…And, well, that was that. But good news for adventurers — all that booty is now ripe for the taking in the Shipwreck map!
Yarrr, me hearties!
Shipwreck has a healthy mix of both dry and flooded passages, and you’re never far away from a breath of fresh air. That being said, you’ll have to dive deep in order to score the most valuable artifacts! And don’t forget to bring some swords, because there are more than a few monsters making their home in these tunnels.
Coming up for air is easy! (as long as you’re unbothered by copious amounts of monsters and locked passageways)
New Map – Seaside Castle
In some other lonely part of the sea lies a lone, unassuming island with some old ruins scattered about. Nothing to see here, right? Wrong, the nothing that you see is in fact a mighty castle that has been lost to time, sunk beneath the waves and filled with riches! The word has gotten out, and now it’s a race to the bottom for those seeking fortune and glory!
Other kings said he was daft to build a castle on the sea, but he built it all the same, just to show ’em! It sank into the sea.
The castle’s airtight construction ensured that not all of the rooms got flooded, so you’ll have quite a bit of breathing room, both in the upper and lower passages. But once you’re down swimming in the depths, it won’t always be easy to come up for air! That SCUBA gear may start to look really tempting to adventurers brave enough to plunder the most valuable artifacts.
Of particular interest in the Seaside Castle is its drainway, which will take you from the upper passages straight to the watery bottom in a jiffy! But that’s quite a splash, and it will earn you +3 Clank!. You’ll also miss a lot of goodies that you would have picked up along the way, and if you didn’t pack enough Boots and Swords, you may not be prepared for what’s below. But on the other hand, beating the other players to the punch can have its own advantages. Decisions, decisions.
Slip and slide!
