Battle Lines: Devour!

Battle Lines: Devour!

My beasts are hungry. Wherever you Nomads roam, and whether you Bolster your ranks with new Recruits or you rely on the Renowned skill of your trained warriors, my beasts will Devour you all.

Welcome to the last preview article for Battle Lines! We’ve gone over four different mechanics for four different tri-faction sides in the fight against The Hermit. But where has The Hermit himself been all this time? What does he have to offer?

Wonder no more, as The Hermit’s beast army is represented by Primal, Fire, and Shadow, and is composed of, well, beasts (And The Hermit himself)! And their mechanic is Devour, which will only be found in these factions in Battle Lines.

Devour X: Effect means, “When played, you may destroy that many cards from the top of the enemy void to get the listed effect.”

Cards that have been Devoured are completely removed from the game forever. So playing Voltaic Viper will remove the opponent’s ability to interact with the top 2 cards of their void permanently while netting you a card in the process.

To get into the nitty gritty a little, the ability won’t happen if you don’t meet the Devour threshold, and Voidbound cards cannot be Devoured and will be skipped over. The enemy player can respond to Devour abilities. If they protect their void with Aegis or remove enough cards in response, it will prevent your Devour ability entirely.

Devour can also appear on attachments, like Stalker Spear. A 2/2 Versatile weapon is fine and all, but if you can wait until you can devour 4 cards, you get a permanent +2/+2 stat increase. Perfect on either your avatar to take out a medium sized threat, or on a unit to make a truly formidable beater!

Meanwhile Insatiable Gorger gives you a little bit more bang for your buck. Whether it or another card is the one doing the Devouring, this greedy little creature can undergo quite the growth spurt.

And that will do it for the preview articles for Battle Lines, coming out October 18th! If you haven’t yet, make sure to check out the pre-order news here, and come hang out with us in the official Discord!

What’s that? You want even more spoilers? Well, I suppose we can do one last one for the road…
